Most people would like to achieve a work life balance, but in reality, this is not always the case. With the New Year fast approaching, now is a great time to think about how to achieve a better work life balance in 2018. Here are some of the reasons why maintaining a balance between your professional and personal life is important:
1. To protect your physical health
Long hours and long commutes often mean that time to partake in physical activity is limited. However, exercise is vitally important as is a healthy diet. Regular activity can be enjoyable in itself as well as have a great effect on your energy levels and mood.
2. To benefit your mental health
The importance of mental health in the workplace is beginning to be more recognized. Spending excessive amounts of time at work or taking on too heavy a work load can contribute towards stress or burnout. It’s important to make time for yourself, away from the office, each week.
3. To boost output levels
Shorter hours can actually be more productive. If you are starting early and finishing late, this can often affect the quality of your work rather than mean more gets completed. So time away from the office, relaxing or socialising with others can actually help you be more productive when you are there.
4. To have no regrets
Very few people regret not spending more time at work over the years. There are people however that regret missing family events or spending time with friends due to long hours in the office. Maintaining a work life balance is about making sure that each aspect of your life is considered with neither area neglected.
