Now that we are into September, this not only marks the start of the academic year, it also marks the beginning of many graduate schemes. After studying at university, starting out in the workplace can be daunting, especially if this is a first job. It can feel like there is a lot to learn, there are a lot of people to meet, and relocating may even be required, which could be out of your comfort zone. However, this is also an exciting time for life experience and development.
Anne Taylor at Directions Coaching works with many professionals in different areas of coaching, one of these areas being Confidence Coaching. Confidence is something that many people choose to work on and something that can really carry a person through life. We therefore thought we would share some tips on this, after all, there is no better time to start than at the beginning of your career!
Have self-belief
When beginning your new graduate job, it is important to remember that you were chosen for a reason. Focussing on your positive attributes and believing in yourself will allow you to take on challenges and be open to new experiences. It will also show in your body language, creating a lasting positive first impression to your new colleagues.
You are not alone
Once you feel more comfortable in your new surroundings, confidence will follow. In order to feel comfortable it is important to speak to as many people as possible to get a real feel for the business, as well as to feel a sense of support. Often there are also other graduates starting at the same time, so it is important to realise you are not alone.
Be Organised
Organising yourself and researching the company beforehand will mean you won’t feel as overwhelmed with information when you are there. When you feel organised, your thoughts will be clear and organised. This will allow you to feel in control and confident so that you can fulfil your potential.
